The Campsie Hills run east to west across central Scotland, just north of Glasgow — a range of heather-clad moorland with the kind of open ground that's made for walking grouse over pointers. This is traditional Scottish wing-shooting at its best: you walk the moor in a line behind a brace of English pointers, the dogs hold on point when they wind grouse, and you walk in to flush. Close shots, fast shooting, beautiful country.
Walked-up grouse is the gentleman's introduction to grouse — more accessible than driven days, more authentic than rough shooting. Bags are typically 5–15 brace per gun per day depending on conditions and birds. A picker-up with retrievers handles the gathering.
Each day you'll drive 25 minutes from the hotel to the moor, shoot from mid-morning, lunch on the hill, then back to the hotel late afternoon for hot baths and a three-course dinner in the bar.

It's a classic Scottish coaching inn: stone walls, log fires, tartan in the bar, and a kitchen that knows how to feed a hungry shooting party.
Drymen sits at the southern gateway to the Highlands, between Loch Lomond and the Campsie Hills. The hotel has hosted shooting parties for generations and is set up for it — boot room for gear, secure gun cabinet, early breakfasts before the moor, late dinners after the dogs are kennelled. House drinks are included throughout your stay.

No — shotgun, cartridges and licensing are all included. We can supply a quality 12-bore side-by-side or over-under depending on your preference. You're welcome to bring your own, of course — UK shotgun visitor permits are straightforward and we'll walk you through the paperwork in advance.
Game birds can't practically be exported back to the US — quarantine rules make it impractical. Your daily bag is shared at the hotel that evening (we eat well), and the rest is gifted to the estate larder. We can arrange feather mementos or a mounted brace if you'd like a keepsake.
The Glorious Twelfth (12 August) is the season opener and the most prestigious dates. Late August and September give warmer weather and full plumage. October and early November are cooler, drier — excellent shooting conditions if you don't mind the chill. Late season (Nov–Dec) is colder still with shorter daylight.
