Driven Game on the UK's Finest Estates

Driven game is the most theatrical of British field sports. Beaters work the woodland or hedgerow to push birds across the gun line — high pheasants from steep valleys, fast partridges over hedges, all flighting toward you on the wing. Each drive is a different stand, a different challenge. The line of guns rotates between drives, so every gun gets a fair share of the birds.

This is the country house tradition at its finest: morning coffee and bacon rolls at the keeper's hut, elevenses with champagne or sloe gin, a hot lunch in the shoot room between morning and afternoon drives, then tea and shortbread before the gunmakers come out to clean.

We work with estates across the UK — from old-school country sporting institutions to newer commercial shoots — and match each client to the ground and bag size that suits them. A first-timer's 150-bird "boys' day" on a friendly mid-tier shoot, a corporate group on a 300-bird flagship day, or a serious sportsman's premium estate at 400+ birds. Whatever you're after, we'll source it.

How pricing works

Each shoot is quoted bespoke based on the estate, bag size, day-tier and party. We arrange accommodation for the nights before and after the shoot and pass the cost through at the rate charged to us. Loaders, cartridges, transport and on-shoot lunch are arranged in the same way. You'll get a single transparent quote covering everything, with no hidden marks.

Not included in any quote: flights, personal alcohol, optional sightseeing days, gratuities (we'll advise the customary rate for the staff at your shoot).

Hunting with George

George Watkinson, founder of Griffin Sporting Club

Raised on the family farm in the south of England, George developed his fieldcraft early. After Durham University and six years as a management consultant in London, he moved to the Outer Hebrides to work as a professional deer hunter and fishing guide.

It was a handful of encouraging American clients who convinced him to start his own outfitter — and Griffin Sporting Club was born to deliver traditional, hosted British fieldsports to visiting hunters.

FAQ

Common Questions

Do I need to bring my own shotgun?

No — shotgun, cartridges and licensing are all included. For driven game we recommend a 12-bore over-under or side-by-side; some shoots prefer specific configurations. You're welcome to bring your own — UK shotgun visitor permits are straightforward and we'll walk you through the paperwork well in advance. Loaders are included on every shoot day.

How does trophy export work?

Game birds can't practically be exported to the US — quarantine rules make it impractical. The day's bag goes to local game dealers and into the country food chain; you'll eat well at dinner. We can arrange mounted brace or feather mementos if you'd like a keepsake from a notable day.

When's the best time to come?

October to January is the heart of the driven game season. Early October is partridge weather, late November to January is peak pheasant. Big estates run their flagship days in November and December — the dates American clients usually want, and the ones that book out furthest in advance.

What's the fitness level needed?

Low. This is gentle countryside walking — flat terrain, short distances, considered stalks rather than big hill days.

Can my partner come?

Yes. Driven days are very social — spouses and observers are warmly welcomed at lunches and dinners, and many enjoy walking with the guns between drives. Observer rate from $500/day depending on the estate. Sightseeing days arranged separately.
